I looked at 2017 Subaru Outback, and saw that it had a considerable sized dent on the passenger left door, the front bumper had a large crack in it at the front driver’s side, and the bumper was also not properly connecting to the driver’s side headlight and front left ¼ panel. I met a salesman by the name of John Pauly, and also met his Sales Manager, Mike. After negotiations (including running a Car History Report, and included running my credit), we come to an agreement that the car would be repaired (bumper and dent in door), and that if the service department didn’t come back with any other issues, that the car would be sold to me for $14,400 plus fees, and that they would give me a trade in for my vehicle of $3,250 (I have the original paperwork given to me by Michael showing the selling price and trade in price for my car. It also lists the date of this report and the sales person’s name). I then took the car for a drive, and when John and I both heard some grinding noises coming from the front end of the car, both sides. I told him to have the car checked out by his service department, and to let me know what was wrong with the car. As he and Mike had agreed to, that provided they fix what was wrong with the car, I would still purchase it for the same agreed amount. On Friday, 6/12/26, John called me at around 10am, and said that they were about to give the car to the service department, and wanted to know if I was serious about the terms that we had discussed. I said yes, provided that the car checked out with service department with no other issues, and that they fix the car as we had discussed. Later in the day, John texted me back stating that the car didn’t pass service inspection., and that they were going to wholesale the car to an auction. About an hour after John had texted me, I texted him back, and asked what exactly they had found wrong with the car. He texted back stating that they didn’t tell him what was wrong, but that it was not worth keeping it due to too much being wrong with it. This in itself is hard to believe that the sales person does not know what is wrong with a car that he was supposed to sell. So I had my doubts that he was telling me the truth. On Tuesday, 6/16/26, still in the need of a car, and also wanting to see if the car was actually off of the lot, I took a drive back down to Castle Hyundai. Sitting at the front right side of the lot, with the front bumper crack having been fixed, but still not properly connected to the headlight and ¼ panel, and still having the same large dent in the right passenger door, was the car that allegedly was to be wholesaled at an auction. (see attached pictures). On Friday, 6/19/26, I called the dealership and spoke with a sales person by the name of Andy, and asked about the car. He said the exact car that I was referring to and that it was for sale. I told him that I had stopped by earlier in the week and saw that it had a dent in the car door. I asked him if there was anything else wrong with the car, and he said “No.” Later this same afternoon, I went back to check the text messages from John Pauly, and he had erased the texts that he had sent to me stating that they were going to wholesale the car and send it to auction, as well as the one where he said that he was not told by the service department what was wrong with the car. I have proof that 6 texts were sent to and from John Pauly on Saturday, 6/12, from my cellular phone account. Currently only 2 texts are showing in our conversation, in my Messages App, from this date, and those 2 texts are only ones that I sent to John. None of John’s replies are listed anymore. I usually give businesses the benefit of the doubt, but after multiple disappointing experiences, I feel compelled to share. 1) Lack of Basic Courtesy – During my first complimentary service visit, I was eight months pregnant. When my car was ready, I was simply handed my keys and told to find my vehicle “along the building out back.” It was snowing and icy, and no one offered to bring the car around—even after seeing my condition. For any customer, this is poor service; for a visibly pregnant woman, it’s downright thoughtless. 2) Overstated Wait Times – My second service appointment (just an oil change) was quoted at two hours—a process that usually takes 45–60 minutes at most other dealerships. I waited in the lounge with my infant daughter, only to see my car sit idle in the service bay for over 45 minutes without any update. I eventually had to call a family member to pick us up. Appointments should be honored—not pushed behind walk-ins. 3) Inaccurate Information and Misleading Practices – Every service sticker placed on my vehicle had incorrect dates or mileage—one even said my next service was due in 2026. I had to call each time to verify when I was actually due. Worse, I was told to come in for service more often than necessary, using up all four complimentary service appointments prematurely. Not once was I informed that I only had four. This feels like a tactic to get customers in more often and start billing once the free services run out. ⸻ In short, Castle has shown me a complete lack of customer consideration, organization, and transparency. TL;DR for my wall of text below: Service center used wrong oil, then doubled down and lied about it to my face. They also changed my Track Mode settings for no reason, making me suspect they had a bit of "fun" with the car before returning it. The tech who did the oil change on my car used the incorrect weight of oil, 0W-20 instead of 0W-30. Once I noticed this on the invoice, the service rep at the counter made a show of running off to the servicing area and came back assuring me they did use 0W-30, but weren't able to key it in properly because it was a "new type of oil". Just a completely nonsensical excuse to try and get me out the door, and I wasn't about to waste any more time after waiting 2 hours for the service to finish. I went home, grabbed some 0W-30 Mobil 1 AFE, and changed the oil myself, making sure to fill a sample bottle when draining to ship out to AMSOIL labs for testing. Lo and behold, they confirmed the sample had 0W-20 viscosity. The way this panned out, it's obviously super unlikely my engine will end up damaged from it, but ONLY because I caught it and immediately remedied it myself. Hyundai specifies 0W-30 for this engine for good reason, and anything thinner WOULD eventually result in adverse effects. This experience has completely killed any possibility of me using a Hyundai dealership service center for maintenance, and also voided a huge selling point in Hyundai's vehicles for me, their 3 year complimentary maintenance - if the free maintenance can result in vehicle damage, what's even the point? Also, they played around with my N mode (track mode) settings. My N Custom 2 setting was set to full sport+ on everything when I got my car back. The car starts in Normal mode and going into, and changing any N mode settings requires several extra steps that are impossible to do on accident.

On two separate occasions, I asked Mr Cho if he could ne honest and admit that the key does not exist so I can proceed to get one from Bill Jacobs BMW in Naperville at my own expense, but he always claimed that it was not necessary since they (Castle Hyundai) would provide the spare key. Following my fifth call to Mr Cho today (Saturday December 2, 2023), he was still telling me stories about the key. At this point I am forced to escalate this matter because of the misleading information flowing from Mr Chang Cho. If he is the "face" of Castle Hyundai, then this dealership needs to re-evaluate its operations and the practices of its salesmen. Let me quickly add that I purchased a Lexus GS430 from this dealership in 2014 (while it was still operating as PUGI). The reputation of PUGI was not exemplary, just FYI.

Long time Pugi (Genesis) customer who will no longer visit Castle following the acquisition. I didn't think a company could tank so quickly after a change in ownership but somehow, Castle nailed it. Little background - I've purchased three cars over the years from Pugi. I always found their staff to be knowledgeable, low pressure in their approach but most importantly, they always placed a heavy emphasis on service. While that attitude still exists amongst some of the employees (Jordan Hernandez was fantastic as was Mike), it's obvious that they are grossly understaffed (likely upper management's fault) and the acquisition was not handled well. They have less mechanics than they used to and that leads to longer wait times in getting in to see them. If you need an example, try making a last minute appointment. Mike, to his credit, got me in last minute but that was only because it was a repeat issue. But if you are buying a car, be aware that you'll likely need to find somewhere to service it. As I type this, I've been on hold, disconnected or directed to an incorrect or non-functioning voicemail 8 times over the past 20 minutes in attempt to get the status of my vehicle repair. The operator's located in another building and despite her being very friendly and helpful, she literally can't connect with anyone there (cashier, service associate or manager). With the acquisition by Castle, they also changed software platforms so they no longer have any of your maintenance history. Even though this was the third time they were addressing my same issue, they couldn't view what they did previously so I had to find all the receipts from prior visits so they could see the maintenance history. To their credit, they did cover the cost of the fix (as they should have) but Castle needs to take a hard look at what made Pugi successful and invest in their operation or I'll buy my 4th Hyundai elsewhere.
